Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who aspire to work in Canada as a caregiver are advised by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to examine if the employment contracts offered by prospective Canadian employers complies with the recruitment conditions of the Philippine government.
The DOLE secretary, Marianito D. Roque reminded OFWs the need to ensure that necessary conditions are clearly stated in the contract before signing and accepting a job offer. Read more.

As posted in the DFA website, the Philippine Embassy in Korea issued a warning against agencies that serves as a medium for Filipinas who wants to go to Korea as mail order brides. Luis T. Cruz, Philippine Ambassador to South Korea, restates this warning as the government of the said country tightens its rules against interracial matchmaking agencies that refuse to comply with local laws and use deceiving advertising. The DFA issued a reminder to all Filipino workers to be cautious of unscrupulous individuals (Filipinos and foreigners) offering jobs in China that offers attractive salary. Many Filipinos have been victimized by illegal recruiters that promised deployment in cities of China like Shanghai. The unfortunate jobseekers find themselves either poorly paid, unemployed, or imprisoned for being caught working without the required visa. Although China needs foreign workers to fill positions in the skilled, technical and professional job categories, there are no openings for domestic helpers. Read more.

Effective July 1, 2008, United Arab Emirates will consider hepatitis C a deportable disease in addition to the present list that includes HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis B. The new test applies to all expatriates applying for residency and labor visas, including renewal. Anyone who tests positive for hepatitis C virus (HCV) will be deported.

An advisory regarding a text scam was issued by the Department of Budget and Management. The said scam targets OFWs and their families. GMANews.TV received an email from Lucy Castro inquiring the validity of a text message saying that she won USD 40,000 in the electronics raffle draw Pangkabuhayan 2008 para sa Kababayang OFW/OCW coming fom a certain Mrs. Laura B. Pascua.
The Budget department said that Pascua is an official of their department. However Pascua deny that she has something to do with the text scam. Pascua said, It is not a function of the DMB to promote programs for OFWs nor do we have funds for this in the budget. Read more.
