From December 1 -8, 2013, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO ) in Hong Kong would waive the fees for OFWs who will apply for overseas employment certificates (OECs). This offer is part of the 80th celebration of the Labor Department or DOLE through their ‘Libreng OEC sa Unang Eighty’ program. As such, for the said period in December, the first 80 OFWs per day may avail the documents which usually cost HKD20 for free.
The OEC is a requirement for all OFWs to ensure that they are documented and protected. Having an OEC grants an OFW privileges such as exemption from Philippine travel tax and airport terminal fees in the Philippines.
