POEA Wants More Jobs for OFWs in Australia in 2012

The POEA is hoping that more job opportunities would be available for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Australia in 2012.

The POEA chief, Carlos Cao, Jr. said that OFWs should take advantage of the shortage of workers inAustraliaas it might open attractive job opportunities for Filipino nurses, construction and mining workers.

Apparently Filipino nurses and construction-related workers are very much in demand in Australia. Data from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) shows that Australia would need 40,000 nurses until 2015.

Labor Attache of POLO, Jalilo Dela Torre also said thatAustralia’s construction industry is booming with expected 750,000 construction projects for the next 20 years.

POEA chief, Cao said, “This is now the opportune time to provide viable solutions to the growing number of jobless and under-employed Filipino nurses now already numbering close to 300,000 including the 68,000 who just recently passed the latest nursing board examinations.”

“With its mining and construction boom that run short of skilled workers and its healthcare system now with an acute need for registered nurses and other allied professionals, there are tremendous opportunities to widen the gateway for jobs for Filipinos inAustraliaacross all industries and across all states and territories,” he added.

im been apply b4 n australia but the problem is the ielts its so hard to pass because of the passing rate now is 5 in its component, its bitter to remove or else the passing rate the same b4 they implemented the passing 4 overall band score so that the applicant can pass the ielts examination.

  • Gelzai222

A part of me says agree and again partly, i disagree.. Why do we need to complain about the ielts? Instead, we should be more glad coz it is a way to practice our english so that it can make us become fluent speakers. Yes, that’s true Filipinos are good in English but remember not everybody are fluent. As of the moment I am here in London and lots of our kababayans are here, but you know you cant just speak like carabao english here coz it also depends on how they got the sentence, i mean they might understand it their way, when you mean something different. And mind you, some of the words we use there in the Philippines are different from their terms here, you’ll just get confused! The thing is, just try to concentrate and review notes and practice at home or with friends. That’s what i did before and i passed. Honestly, it wasn’t that high score but it made me contented ;) and i want to take again this time, I’m just saving money as of the moment for me to take ielts again. Sacrifice, the cost will just be nothing when you pass the exam and be there in Australia, earning thousands of dollar, ayt? You can do it, believe in yourself! You are Filipino, KAYA MO YAN!!! Good luck! ^_^

  • Marylle

i think if you are applying as a nurse in australia,at least you get a overall band of 8 in ielts not 5. if  5 is the passing rate that’s not bad anymore.

  • Charissa

most of our construction workers doesnt finish even high school… how can you help them….

  • Josh Nal

I’m a high school graduate only, but IELTS is very easy this is just a writing and speaking not a skill so why we not pass that IELTS? many agency conducted IELTS for free to their applicants. so the important
for us is the skilled, we must review and practice our skill so that if we have an interview with our employer we pass, not complaining about IELTS.
