There Are 400,000 Job Orders for OFWs- POEA

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) calms the worries of some aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) that job opportunities may be scarce for them this year as a result of the global financial crisis with the announcement that an estimate of 400,000 jobs are still available for them overseas.

Jennifer Manalili, POEA chief said, “Roughly we still have a balance of 400,000 or so job orders worldwide, these are job orders or requests from employers abroad for workers from the Philippines.” Read more.

Free Computer Courses for Filipinos in UAE

As part of the Philippine government’s effort to ease the impact of the global financial crisis, at least seven hundred Filipinos working and residing in Dubai and Northern Emirates, would benefit from free computer courses.

The free computer lessons would take place in Rewaq Cultural Centre in Al Twar 2 and at Abu Bakr Assiddiq Islamic Center in Dubai and will run every Friday for two and a half months or ten weeks. Read more.

Migrante Rejoices Over Triumph of Sentosa Nurses

Saudi’s Unified Contract Scheme is Now Optional

A joint meeting held last January 21 between the Philippine and Saudi delegation led to an agreement that the proposed Saudi’s unified contract” policy will no longer be mandatory for the Philippine recruitment agencies that sends overseas Filipino workers (OFWS) to Saudi Arabia.

The Philippine team was led by Labor Undersecretary Rosalinda Baldoz while the delegates from KSA were headed by Mohammad Al-Mohamadi. As stated in the minutes of the said meeting that bears the signature of both Baldoz and Mohammad, the “unified contract” (UC) “is not mandatory as a document for the recruitment of OFWs.” Read more.
