No Jobs for Household Help in China

The DFA issued a reminder to all Filipino workers to be cautious of unscrupulous individuals (Filipinos and foreigners) offering jobs in China that offers attractive salary. Many Filipinos have been victimized by illegal recruiters that promised deployment in cities of China like Shanghai. The unfortunate jobseekers find themselves either poorly paid, unemployed, or imprisoned for being caught working without the required visa. Although China needs foreign workers to fill positions in the skilled, technical and professional job categories, there are no openings for domestic helpers. Read more.

Saudi Requires Fingerprinting of Expatriates

There is a new requirement for all foreign workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) who wish to obtain their iqama or residency permits. The government of KSA now implements mandatory fingerprinting for all expatriates or foreign workers. The additional rule was deemed necessary to prevent and fight falsification of documents and possible entry of unscrupulous individuals in KSA. Read more.

New Immigration Bill in CNMI to Benefit OFWs

OFWs in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) have reason to rejoice as the President of the USA, George Bush recently approved the bill that would apply the US federal immigration law to CNMI. An estimated number of 10,000 legal OFWs in CNMI are said to benefit from this new development.

The new law, S. 2739 or the Consolidated Natural Resources Act of 2008 would erased CNMI’s previous status as the only US territory that implements independent immigration policy. Read more

Oversupply of Nurses?

Could it be that the Philippines got too excited about the demand for nurses worldwide that today, there are too many nurses than the healthcare institutions can handle.

A report from the UP Dean of the College of Nursing revealed that indeed our country has so many nurses that new nursing graduates are finding it hard to find jobs. The competition among nursing graduates is so stiff that local hospitals can now afford to hire nurses for free.

In spite of the obvious oversupply of nurses, nursing schools continues to proliferate and offer nursing courses to hopeful students, almost all of them wishing to land a job overseas. Read more.
