According to the DFA, Egypt is not accepting domestic helpers from other countries, including the Philippines, except those who are working for foreign diplomats. DFA informed that the government of Egypt only grants visa and working permits to foreign domestic helpers hired by foreign diplomats accredited to Egypt.
The public is urged to report to POEA any recruitment agency or individual offering jobs for domestic helpers in Egypt.

The Middle East chapter of militant group, Migrante started a signature campaign to fight the new POEA direct-hiring policy, abolish the OWWA omnibus policies and the POEA guidelines on the deployment of Filipino household service workers that doubled the minimum monthly salary of domestic helpers from $200 to $400 and required skills training and language proficiency clearances. A group of international ship owners will offer an initial 50 scholarships in marine or naval engineering to graduating HS students for the SY 2008-2009 at the University of Cebu.
Upon graduation, the scholars are guaranteed sea-time training and employment. Applicants need to have a high school average grade of 85%; and no grade in Math, Science, and English lower than 80%.
